Llevándonos a los duros años 80 de la capital dublinesa, Carney nos presenta a una familia desestructurada y aburrida de si misma, llena de gastos y que obligan a Connor a cambiarse a un colegio público dominado por un sacerdote. Sin evitar en su contexto duras situaciones sociales, Carney mantiene el dar protagonismo al individuo y a sus pasiones, a su insondable búsqueda de sus sueños y su libertad.
A la salida del colegio, Connor conocerá a Raphina; una enigmática chica que busca ser modelo y que se convertirá en su musa y su pasión tras la formación del grupo y la composición de sus temas. La música recoge como siempre un gran protagonismo, llevándonos por un viaje al rock de esa época (The Cure, Duran Duran) y la cambiante inspiración que supondrán en el grupo de Connor.
Carisma irrefrenable, fantástica selección musical y un punto de rebeldía ante la autarquia e inmovilismo de los adultos, jugando como nunca el componente de transgresión de la música para la juventud. Una oda al amor adolescente y a las musas, a la libertad y la pasión, además de un confeso canto al amor fraternal personificado en el hermano mayor que interpreta brillantemente Jack Reynor. Un filme irresistible.
